Who I am

Of the six states in Australia, half I’ve called home in my lifetime. I was born in Victoria, grew up in Queensland, and happily settled in New South Wales, Sydney, to pin it. It’s no surprise then that I sit on the AFL fence when it comes to backing my favorite team; the Bombers, the Suns, and the Swans all hold an equal place in my heart, and if any win on the day, I’m a happy punter.

When it comes to chilling out, I’m partial to a crafty cold brew on a summer’s day beachside or in the park running amok with my spoiled spoodle, Theodore. As the sun sets, you’ll find me sipping a chilled beverage on the balcony or tucking into a legit Omakase dining experience at a local Japanese restaurant, a culinary link to my second home where I learned my (now rusty) Japanese. Should a night out roll on,  you’ll most likely find me at a karaoke bar, mic in hand, belting out an all-time favourite, Rehab, by Amy Winehouse (RIP).

I’ve worked in corporate marketing for a time and been a pretty familiar face on the Aussie acting scene — you may’ve seen me repping some well-known fast food and alcohol brands as well as national banks (and I know what you’re thinking, despite the chiselled jaw, I’m not another Hemsworth).

Why do I tell you all of this? Because I believe it supports my unique celebrant and MC style, encompassing uber-organised processes, officiating fluently, staying observant, and handling the unpredictable on the fly. Some of the top moments captured are the spontaneous ones that aren’t scripted.

After ten years and 600+ ceremonies delivered, I’ve learned one key thing that guides my unique take on providing modern celebrant and mentoring services: No two couples, families or students are the same. That’s why, with every client I work with, I take an individual approach to discovering a story, shaping a vision and delivering a custom experience with an inspiring difference. What I do

When I started in 2014 as a celebrant, after some years as an MC, my focus was purely on weddings and providing a super-personal service for couples wanting something distinctly different from the stock-standard, ho-hum ceremony.

How do I do that, exactly? Simple. I get to know you both more intimately and discover what makes you tick so well on the love front, enabling us to create an unbeatable baseline for seriously good times — dropping in a quick laugh and spontaneously engaging guests always a sure-fire hit that never fails to keep the feels flowing.

This relaxed curiosity and warm approach to storytelling naturally led to elopements and funeral services because, at the end of the day, what I do is essentially all about celebrating ‘you’.

Given the growth of Oliver Thomson Celebrancy and the home-grown industry as a whole, I now offer celebrant mentoring and training in easy-to-digest modules for people who want to update and improve their professional skills.
